What is Chytrid?

Chytridiomycosis is a disease that gained attention in late 90s and is recognized as a global pathogen of amphibians causing global declines and species extinctions.
The disease is caused by a fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) that infects the skin of adult amphibians and the mouthparts of tadpoles.
Chytrid has now been identified in the UK.
If surveying multiple ponds more than 250m away some precautions should be taken :
Rinse boots and nets in Virkon
OR
Allow them to dry out between visits.
